The granny flat is back. The long tradition of backyard granny flats providing additional housing for loved ones or rental income is back.
The NSW Government has introduced State Planning policies which makes approvals for granny flats easier and faster to approve and hence build.
A general requirement for granny flats is:
- Land zoned Residential.
- Blocks 450m2 or greater.
- Maximum floor area 60m2.
- One Granny Flat per block.
- 3m rear set back from property boundary
Under Complying Development, approvals can be obtained with 10 Days If your property is not suitable for Complying Development then a Development Applicationcan be lodged with your local Council.
